Network Working Group Thoughts and Reflections on Nwg/rfc #54
نویسنده
چکیده
In line with the discussion in NWG/RFC #48, we felt that two types of errors should be distinguished. One is a real error, such as an RFC composed of two send sockets. This type of error can only be generated by a broken NCP. In the absence of hardware and software bugs, these events should never occur; the correct response upon detection of such an event was outlined in the description of the ERR command in NWG/RFC #54. The other "error" is an overflow condition arising because finite system resources are exhausted. An overflow condition could occur if an RFC was received, but there was no room to create the requisite tables and queues. This is not a real error, in the sense that no one has done anything incorrect (expect perhaps the system planners in not providing sufficient table space, etc.) Further, a

Models for HTTP-Adaptive-Streaming-Aware Content Distribution Network Interconnection (CDNI)
This document presents thoughts on the potential impact of supporting HTTP Adaptive Streaming (HAS) technologies in Content Distribution Network Interconnection (CDNI) scenarios. The intent is to present the authors’ analysis of the CDNI-HAS problem space and discuss different options put forward by the authors (and by others during informal discussions) on how to deal with HAS in the context o...
متن کاملWhat we hope is an official list of host names
The enclosed is what we hope will be accepted as a list of official formal host names and nicknames. As no other subject worked on by the NWG has generated so much comment, it is worthwhile to review briefly how this list came into being. The need for some standard set of names recognized by NCP's and Telnets and usable on hardcopy to designate a persons affiliation had been recognized for some...

OUTPUT OF THE HOST/HOST PROTOCOL GLITCH CLEANING COMMITTEE At the NWG meeting in Urbana on 17-19 February 1971, a committee was established to look at the Host/Host protocol and see what changes were immediately desirable or necessary. The committee is chaired by Steve Crocker, and has eight other members: Ray Tomlinson BBN (Tenex) Jim White UCSB Gary Grossman Illinois Tom Barkalow Lincoln (TX2...
متن کاملSolution to the race condition in the ICP
In NWG/RFC #143 a race condition in the ICP was described and a solution was suggested. The problem arises because the Host-Host protocol does not specify what the NCP should do when it gets more than one request of STR (or RTS) to the same socket. As a result this decision depends on the particular implementation: some may queue these requests (SDC for example), some will refuse a request if t...
